11 celebrities who live simple lives
The biggest criticism made about Hollywood stars is that they are completely disconnected from normal people. The celebrities we present here are proof that for some of them, simplicity is instead a chosen (or at least sought after) way of life. Let's be clear, none of them live in a slum, but from Coco Chanel to Hayden Christensen, they’ve all decided to live simply, or at least defend simplicity in their own way.
Either this way of life has become a strength for them, or it’s exactly the fame and wealth they acquired before that allow them to live as they see fit now.
1. Coco Chanel
This symbol of French elegance, also known as "the poor type of queen," has always wanted to liberate women. From unfitted silhouettes to trousers and French sailor blouses, her clothes were simple, practical, and comfortable, unlike the clothes of the aristocracy. Maybe it was her modest childhood that kept her feet on the ground and made her want to make clothes that all women could wear. In spite of the easy life she had later, Gabrielle Chasnel always remembered the lessons from her childhood (a daughter of simple traveling merchants, she was even a housemaid), not being afraid to turn to simplicity and practicality, drawing her originality and success from it.
2. Mark Zuckerberg
He also had set a goal of reaching everyone with his social network. Now that he's a billionaire, he hasn’t changed his lifestyle too much: he always dresses like the student he was when he created his business, with a gray t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers. And he doesn’t care too much about how he looks. Perhaps because he has the means to not care...
3. Ingvar Kamprad
You probably don’t know this name, because he doesn’t frequent Hollywood parties. This simple yet stylish grandfather is at the head of the IKEA empire! By making furniture affordable to everyone, he helps us save a lot of money, and continues to live modestly even after becoming a billionaire: he drives an old Volvo, flies coach, has IKEA furniture in his own house, and only buys clothes on sale. Proof that one can be rich and powerful while aspiring to remain simple.
4. Boris Johnson
The former mayor of London, now the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Great Britain, opts for the simplicity of a bike ride every morning to get to work. Regardless of whether it’s his press secretary’s idea, or if he truly believes in it, he still advocates for simplicity, the environment, and exercise, and that he’s setting an example.
5. Jennifer Garner
This world-famous actress tries to live an ordinary everyday life (at least when she’s not working) by going to the kinds of stores that everyone else goes to. She takes her children to the market, not dressed up or wearing any makeup, and talks to the farmers. Perhaps this is a source of strength and continuity.
6. Steve Jobs
During his lifetime, we all recognized Steve Jobs in his uniform: jeans, white sneakers, and a black turtleneck, even after all the success of iPhones, etc.! He also lived in a normal house. Maybe he never left the environment he grew up in, or the fact that he wanted to be able to tinker with his machines at any time. He was also interested in Buddhism and spirituality, not hesitating to dress like a monk from this religion.
7. Tyra Banks
Is it because she was a waitress before she became famous that the model tries to avoid upscale restaurants, and prefers middle class restaurants instead?
8. Russell Crowe
Russell Crowe has rejected Hollywood mansions to hide out on an Australian ranch, where he lives with his family, his horses, a jeep, and the surrounding landscape. The saying "Happiness comes to those who live discreetly" applies to him, even if he does not live a luxury life surrounded by celebrities. It's his choice.
9. Hayden Christensen
When you begin your acting career at age 12, you have time to get over the fame. At the age of 35, after experiencing fame in Star Wars, this young actor decided to go back to the vast open spaces of Canada and buy a farm. He is happy growing his own vegetables and riding his tractor.
10. Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnold was not only an actor, but he married a descendant of JFK, and then became governor of California, meaning he could be full of himself if he wanted! However, since he left the public eye, he lives a normal life (see above), and even saved a surfer from drowning without bragging to the press.
11. Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves is not the first actor to venture onto the New York subway, but he also donates a lot to charities, gives gifts, dresses simply, and is generally humble in the way he lives.
