11 of the weirdest things to wash up on a beach
The ocean's a mysterious place, full of hidden treasures and creatures that we've yet to discover. Even stranger is when people have headed to their local beach only to find really bizarre objects have washed up on the shore.
Think we're exaggerating? Then have a look at these 11 weird objects that were all found washed up on a beach!
1. A giant LEGO man
This giant LEGO man was found on the beach at Zandvoort in Holland. It was about 8 feet tall and was found by walkers, who took numerous photos of this bizarre sight. LEGO confirmed that they hadn't lost any LEGOLAND displays, so where this guy came from remains a complete mystery!
2. Containers
The cargo ship 'Napoli' sunk in 2007, leaving numerous containers washed up on beaches across Devon, UK. When people opened them up they found BMW motorcycles and barrels of wine amongst other things!
3. Missile debris
Missile debris was found on a beach in Japan in 2016. Experts believe it could have come from a missile that was launched by North Korea earlier that year.
4. A huge eye from an unknown creature
This is a complete mystery! No one has been able to identify which animal this eye comes from after it was washed up on a Florida beach in 2012...
5. An entire missile
This missile was found on a Scottish beach in 2008. It was unexploded, but didn't carry a name or number, so remains unidentified.
6. A giant dice
A giant dice, rather than a LEGO man, this time found in 2017 on an Idaho beach. No one has any idea how it got there.
7. Spaceship debris
This debris was found on a beach in the Bahamas. A company called Elon Musk launched this 'Space X' vessel in 2015.
8. Kinder Eggs and LEGO toys
In January 2017 kids on the island of Langeoog, Germany, got a real surprise when they found the beach littered with Kinder Eggs and LEGO toys! They had been washed up on the shore after a cargo ship lost its load whilst out at sea... Talk about a late Christmas present!
9. A flow meter
Lots of people thought this was a UFO, but it turned out to be an acoustic flow meter. Flow meters are used to measure the speed of deep, ocean currents.
10. Giant pipes
Huge pipes, including one that was 1,640 feet long and 6.5 feet in diameter, washed up on a Norfolk (UK) beach in August 2017.
11. Whales
No one is really sure what causes whales to beach. Some believe it's due to illnesses caused by increasingly polluted seas. Other claim it's caused by radars and sonar signals that cause whales to become disorientated, meaning they stray from their pod. Similar theories exist for killer whales and dolphins, which are also known to beach.
