13 secrets that movie theater workers will never tell you
You may have worked in a movie theater or know someone that does. From selling tickets to popcorn, cleaning up in between movies or kicking out someone who's trying to sneak in for free... There's a lot more going on behind the scenes than we may realize.
So, we've drawn up a list of 13 things that movie theater workers may never admit to doing!
1. The nicer you are, the more popcorn you get!
If you want your bucket of popcorn to be filled to the brim, then remember to be polite and cheerful!
2. Movie theater workers tease customers behind their back
They know which movie you're there to see, so if you're a macho metal head planning to settle down in front of Disney's latest cartoon blockbuster, be prepared to hear some sniggering behind your back!
3. No one wants to answer the phone
The phones never stop ringing and as staff are so busy, they don't always have the time or the will to keep taking calls.
4. They watch movies and/or trailers during their break
All workers get breaks, so they'll happily take advantage of the comfy seats and watch trailers or part of the latest release.
5. The hate school vacation time
Noisy, messy kids drive movie theater workers completely insane!
6. They'll turn a blind eye if they see you sneaking off to see another movie
They know you're doing it, but really don't care if you switch to another movie.
7. They know people take your own snacks and drinks into the theater
Obviously movie theaters need to make money, so officially all food and drink needs to be bought from their sellers, but no one's going to check your bag or throw you out if you've smuggled in some supplies!
8. They'll occasionally drop food or candy on the floor
Any food that falls on the floor can't be sold, so ends up in workers' stomachs!
9. They don't like it when blockbusters first hit the screen
Ditto for premieres... Busy, busy nights if you're a movie theater worker!
10. Don't even think about lying about your age
They'll card you if you're obviously a minor trying to sneak into an adult movie and there's no point in trying to convince them you're a minor when you're clearly a grown up!
11. They know tickets are expensive, but there's nothing they can do about it
Don't waste time complaining to staff about ticket prices - how much they cost is a management decision not theirs!
12. Ditto for how long you spend queuing to get in
Automatic ticket distributors have speeded things up, but movie theater workers are not to blame if the entire world appears to have chosen the same movie night.
13. Friendship counts
Yes they do get their friends in for a cheaper price (or for free!) and will give them some free snacks. Who wouldn't?
