13 surprising things you never knew about “The Simpsons”
“The Simpsons” showed up on our screens in 1989, and it didn’t take long for everyone to know who they were. We’ve all spent a few hours lying on the couch watching the comedy series at least once. But do you think you know everything about this rather special family?

1. The only character in the series to have ten fingers is God.
2. Homer’s favorite team, the Isotopes, is the name of an actual minor league baseball team in Albuquerque.
3. Some of the characters got their names from members of Matt Groening’s family.
The creator of the series didn’t have to go far to find the names for his characters. However, he didn’t give his name to Bart, because he worried that people would immediately realize it.
4. Some Muslim countries have adapted their version of the show.
The American way of life does not necessarily correspond to that of the Muslim world. In their version, you don’t ever see beer, and Homer’s name is replaced by Omar.
5. The American channel "Fox" has the exclusive rights to broadcast the series until 2082.
6. The characters are yellow for a reason.
The creator, Matt Groening, didn’t want the conventional cartoon colors and said that when a viewer was flipping through the channels he would immediately recognize “The Simpsons”. The color was also selected based on cost. In fact, using yellow is a lot cheaper than using other colors.
7. Lisa’s 8th birthday happened twice on the show.
8. The name "Bart" comes from "brat".
9. The show’s intro was made in just two days.
10. Some of the show’s scenes are a nod to some great works of art.
11. Paul McCartney agreed to be the voice of his character on the show on the condition that Lisa would remain a vegetarian.
12. The creator never wanted his city to actually exist.
The name of the city of Springfield is clearly not by chance, because it is a very common name for cities in the United States. Therefore, no one can spread false rumors about the location of the city on the show.
13. “The Simpsons” has been shown in prime time more than any other series in television history.
