In most people’s minds today, the Titanic is primarily a film. But above all, it is a film inspired by the true story of the Titanic ship. Here is a list of little-known facts about what is certainly one of the most famous shipwrecks in history. It has been known as the biggest success in the history of film for a long time, James Cameron's Titanic.
1. It wasn’t a good thing to be a Japanese survivor.
The only Japanese person to survive the disaster was ostracized treated as a coward for not dying along with his countrymen on board.
2. It took 73 years to find the ship’s wreckage.
3. Saved by a night of drinking
The pastry chef drank so much alcohol before the disaster that he managed to survive two hours in the water before being rescued.
4. A Titanic movie was produced shortly after the disaster.
The first film adaptation of the story of the Titanic was made a month after the disaster. One of the actresses was a survivor of the sinking ship.
5. The Titanic was so enormous that it took 176 crew members to put the coal in the machines.
6. Milton Hershey, founder of the Hershey chocolate company, had canceled his reservation at the last minute because of his business.
7. No other ship of this kind had been sunk by an iceberg.
8. The ship was prepared for a potential accident ... but not one of this magnitude.
The Titanic was designed to take on flood waters in 4 compartments without sinking. That tragic night, 6 compartments took on water.
9. 12 dogs were aboard the ship, and 3 of them survived.
