5 fascinating mystery spots that any thrill-seeker will love
For some inexplicable reason, the Wall Street Crash in 1929 also marked a moment in history when weird 'anti-gravity' phenomena began to be observed in various parts of the world. Mysterious goings on that drew in the crowds who wanted to witness them for themselves. Some of these places became theme parks, others tourist hotspots or scientific research areas. Many still offer guided tours, whilst some have become popular hiking, golfing or zip-line destinations. Here are five such places where strange phenomena have been observed, some of which still remain unexplained to this day!
1. The Mystery Spot at Saint Ignace in Michigan (USA)
Whether you believe it's supernatural or there's an explicable scientific reason, Saint Ignace is a really cool place if you want to witness gravity going haywire. In the early 1950's explorers in the area suddenly found their equipment stopped working in a small area that was about 50m in diameter.
This gave birth to a theme park where visitors can witness anti-gravity effects, optical illusions and other odd physical sensations. Objects appear to roll upwards and people find that they can hold gravity-defying positions.
2. The Mystery Spot at Santa Cruz in California (USA)
3. The Hoover Dam in Nevada (USA)
This immense Art Deco dam isn't just famous for its architecture, but also its mysterious anti-gravity phenomenon. If you pour water from the top of the dam, it'll flow upwards rather than dropping to the ground! Scientists, however, have found the explanation for this freaky phenomenon: the dam's structure causes powerful upward air currents (a bit like skyscrapers) that force water up towards the sky.
4. The Magnetic Hill in Leh in Ladakh (India)
A 'gravity hill' situated in Leh in Ladakh, India, where objects and cars appear to roll up rather than downhill. How? Well it boils down to an optical illusion caused by a downhill road that just looks like an uphill road. So nothing paranormal - just our eyes playing tricks on us!
5. The Faroe Islands' falls
Situated between Denmark and Iceland, the Faroe Islands have waterfalls where the water seems to explode upwards rather than downwards! It's a powerful and impressive sight that's been observed elsewhere in the world and is caused by strong winds that literally throw the water up into the air!
