8 strange abandoned places that will give you chills
There are many abandoned buildings around the world.
Most of the time, when you visit a place like this, a very particular feeling arises. It can be sadness, anger, fear, etc.
In this article, we focus on a few scary places. Here are 8 abandoned places that will give you goose bumps.
1. Michigan Central Station, Detroit
This building was constructed in 1913, and it was the tallest train station in the world. It has not been in operation since 1988. Two years later in late 1990, it opened to the public. Unfortunately, that year, the station was closed because of numerous acts of vandalism. Today, it remains closed to the public and is guarded by security.
2. Pripyat, Ukraine
Pripyat is only a ghost town in northern Ukraine. On April 27, 1986, after the Chernobyl disaster, the city was deserted due to a government-ordered immediate evacuation of the area. No one was allowed to carry away any personal possessions. In order to avoid panic, people were promised they would be able to come back home as soon as possible. But no one ever returned. Today the city is considered relatively safe to visit, which attracts some tourists.
3. SS America
In 1941, this large ship was commissioned for service as a troop transport and was renamed the USS West Point. Postwar years transformed SS America into a passenger vessel. Then in 1980, a new owner wanted to convert the ship into a prison. Fourteen years later, the ship sailed into a thunderstorm in the Atlantic Ocean and ran aground near the coast of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. The entire crew had to be rescued by helicopter.
4. Discovery Island, Florida, USA
Discovery Island was built on Walt Disney World property in 1974. It was open for visitors as an amusement park, where they could admire many species of local flora and fauna. In 1999, the park was closed and left abandoned ever since.
5. Hotel del Salto, Bogota, Colombia

Hotel del Salto was closed in the early 1990s, mainly because the prolonged reconstruction gradually reduced tourist interest in the area, and the building lost its fame. However, rumor has it that the hotel was the scene of several suicides. So some people believe that the hotel is haunted.
6. Beelitz Military Hospital, Brandenburg, Germany
During World War I, the Imperial German Army used this hospital as the largest health complex for soldiers. Many soldiers received care there. It was occupied by the Red Army forces from 1945 until 1995. Adolf Hitler was one of the most famous patients. It would seem that many tormented souls roam the hospital, and there’s a strong paranormal presence there. It offers a strange atmosphere to tourists who adventure there to visit.
7. Miranda Castle, Celles, Belgium

This magnificent neo-Gothic castle has stood deserted and completely abandoned since 1991. The costs to maintain the picturesque château were too large, and a search for investors failed. The directors of the famous TV show “Hannibal” used Miranda Castle as a filming location for many scenes.
8. Power Plant of Charleroi, Belgium
In 2006, Greenpeace made several negative announcements regarding this power plant. The report claimed that Charleroi created a mass release of carbon dioxide of about 10% in the country. A year later in 2007, the power plant closed due to lack of funding to make improvements.
