Movie heroes and villains: we can all agree that these fictional characters have left a lasting impression on our childhoods or adolescence! Did you know that some of these characters were not created from scratch? In fact, they were inspired by real people...
1. Nick Fury / Samuel L.Jackson
In 2001, Mark Millar decided to change the character of Nick Fury from white to black based on the actor who would portray him, Samuel L. Jackson.
2. The Joker / Conrad Veidt
The Joker is directly inspired by Conrad Veidt, the actor who played the role of Gwynplaine in The Man Who Laughs in 1928.
3. Tony Stark / Elon Musk
Robert Downey, Jr. got his inspiration in part from billionaire Elon Musk, the eccentric founder of SpaceX and Tesla Motors.
4. J. Jonah Jameson / Stan Lee
The famous Stan Lee admits to creating J. Jonah Jameson in his own image.
5. Constantine / Sting
Stephen Bissette and John Totleben got their inspiration for creating the character of John Constantine from the artist, Sting. In fact, the co-creators of John Constantine were fans of the music group "The Police".
6. Magneto / Malcolm X
Martin Luther King and Malcolm X could very well have been used as models in creating the characters of Professor X and Magneto.
7. Catwoman / Jean Harlow
The character of Catwoman was partially inspired by Jean Harlow, an actress who played the role perfectly in the 1940s.
8. Wolverine / Paul d’Amato
John Byrne, the illustrator of the character of Wolverine, got his inspiration from the actor Paul D'amato, while watching the comedy Slap Shot.
9. Harley Quinn / Arleen Sorkin
Paul Dini and Bruce Timm created the character of Harley Quinn inspired by actress Arleen Sorkin’s physique.
