A special sleeping bag that improves the lives of the homeless, the genius idea of a schoolgirl...
Her name is Emily Duffy and she's only 15 years old, but her young age doesn't prevent her from having some very good ideas.
A student at Desmond College in Ireland, she works for a local organization that helps the homeless. Through this project, she was able to understand the extremely difficult daily lives of these people on the edge of society, especially when it comes to protecting themselves from cold and moisture during the night.
So she had the idea of designing a sleeping bag with a light-reflecting surface, made of anti-flammable, waterproof material. Called the 'Duffily Bag,' this sleeping bag is also equipped with a built-in pillow and Velcro straps to make them easy to close.
Her project was presented at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition and impressed the authorities, who produced many of them to be distributed to the homeless. Better yet, some of these vulnerable people were hired to work at manufacturing these sleeping bags, receiving a salary of 9.23 euros per hour...
