A van and $8 a day... Nothing else was needed for this couple to start a world tour!
Karol Lewandowski and Aleksandra Åšlusarczyk, a Polish couple, gave up everything to take off on a tour of the world in a van. Their budget: $8 a day.
Karol Lewandowski and Aleksandra Åšlusarczyk, a Polish couple, gave up everything to take off on a tour of the world in a van. Their budget: $8 a day.
They bought the van for $600, painted it, and took tents and food with them.
After 6 years, the couple have traveled more than 93,000 miles and visited more than 50 countries on 5 different continents.
The couple slept in the van every night and never paid a restaurant tab, because they only cooked their food.
Their only significant expense: gas. To save even more money, the couple decided to offer rides to people. In fact, if they meet other travelers heading the same direction as them, they offer to drive them and split the costs.
The van also has an electric shower with a 40-gallon tank, located on the roof.
In addition, since their adventure is told in their blog and has attracted many fans, those fans help Karol and Aleksandra in several ways: for example, buying postcards from the couple to pay for their gas.
For van repairs, the couple avoids using a mechanic - they repair it themselves.
Also, to help pay for their journey, they have sponsors. Thanks to these sponsors, the 2 travelers could pay for their ferry tickets to go to the USA and Australia. The couple sticks the sponsors' logos on the van - a good deal for companies because the couple has the most visited blog in all of Poland.
The 2 travelers don't just do a series of journeys. They travel while working. In fact, thanks to their blog and the sale of 2 travel advice books, they've earned money.
In addition, they carry out photo sessions and promotional videos for tour operators. They also sometimes work as graphic designers.
