At 98 years old, this elderly man made a crazy bet with his daughter. He quickly became an internet celebrity for a day!
The story took place in Massachusetts. On his 98th birthday, while he was in the hospital, Alfred Birch bet his daughter that he could get 98 likes on one of his photos. He asked his daughter and granddaughter, who were celebrating his birthday with him in the hospital, to post his photo on Facebook.
Julie Geswell, 18, Alfred's granddaughter, accepted the challenge. She took his picture with a sign that read, 'My daughter does not think that I can get 98 likes for being 98 years old. Can we prove her wrong? '
The results went beyond all the elderly man's wishes! The photo was posted on March 6 and got 100 likes in less than 24 hours, and more than 20,000 likes so far! The family was excited: it never could've imagined that internet users around the world would rally around their grandfather's birthday.
Julie told ABC News, 'We have read all the comments and we're going to print them with the picture to give to him.'
So many birthday wishes from so many strangers around the world! Alfred still can't believe it!
