Did you know that these 12 actors wore a wig for a role?
When you think about it, the scalps of actors (and especially actresses) must really be put to the test. It is not uncommon for them to completely change the style of characters for the sake of a movie just so they won’t damage their hair too much, and it’s best to wear a wig.
1. Tom Mison (“Sleepy Hollow”)
The actor had short hair at the beginning of shooting so he had to wear a wig to play his character.
2. Gillian Anderson (“The X-Files”)
Since Gillian Anderson is blonde, she had to wear a wig to play the role of Agent Scully in the new series of “The X-Files” series. She had to do this as opposed to losing her hair, because her many changes in hair color have seriously damaged her hair.
3. Alison Arngrim (“Little House on the Prairie”)
The evil Nellie Oleson wears a wig in the series.
4. Travis Fimmel and Clive Standen (“Vikings”)
Both actors wear extensions. Travis Fimmel (Ragnar Lodbrok) has a shaved head and because of that, it’s easy for him to wear a wig, but for Clive Standen (Rollo), it takes more than 9 hours of work.
5. Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”)
6. Viola Davis ("How to Get Away with Murder")
One of the show’s scenes affected many fans…the one where Viola Davis takes off her wig, to show how fragile her character is once she’s away from prying eyes. She was the one who suggested the scene to the screenwriters.
7. Danai Gurira (“The Walking Dead”)
8. Megan Boone ("The Blacklist")
The main actress on “The Blacklist” has short hair in real life.
9. Karen Gillan (“Selfie”)
Just after her role in Guardians of the Galaxy where she had a shaved head, she had to follow it with the role of a girl with long hair. Some of her own actual hair was used to make the wig.
10. Maggie Smith (“Downton Abbey”)
11. Corey Stoll ("The Strain")
12. Julianna Margulies ("The Good Wife")
Julianna Margulies has naturally curly hair, and in order to play her role on the show, she always needed to have straight hair. The actress preferred to wear a wig that was worth $10,000.
