"I said NO to chemotherapy" The moving story of an elderly lady who wants to live life to the fullest...
Despite advances in medicine, cancer continues to take many people every year, and treatments are taxing and often leave victims limited. At the age of 90, when she learned that she was suffering from it and her husband had just passed, Norma decided that she would continue to live life in the best way possible.
In addition to being painful, cancer treatments don't guarantee results. Norma, a 90-year old from Michigan, had experienced a difficult week last year. A few days apart, she had to cope with the death of her husband Leo, with whom she had lived for 67 years, and receiving news that she had uterine cancer.
Doctors gave her some options: chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. To which she responded: "I'm 90 years old, I'm hitting the road."
One of the specialists then responded: 'As doctors, we see what looks like cancer treatments every day. Intensive care units, nursing homes, side effects and honestly, there's no guarantee that you would survive a surgery to remove the mass. You are doing exactly what I would do in this situation. Have fun! '
So, Norma took off on a series of trips with her daughter and son-in-law, who had supported her decision from the beginning. In their vehicle, they criss-crossed American roads and have even visited other countries, including China.
Today, Norma is still alive and feels rather well. She even feels like she's in remission. And we wish her the best of luck...
