Soon you'll be able to breathe underwater for 45 minutes with this cool invention... We'll tell you all about it:
Using a small respirator with 45 minutes of autonomy, you will soon be able to swim like Qui-Gon Jinn did in 'Star Wars: The Phantom Menace'.
This respirator will be available for purchase in December 2016.
Here's the scene from the movie 'Star Wars: The Phantom Menace':
This beautiful invention was created by Korean designer Jeabyun Yeon, who named his respirator 'Triton'. This name evokes the sea god son of Poseidon and messenger of the sea, as well as the amphibian of the same name.
A respirator that comes in the form of 'artificial gills'! Using micro-porous fiber, it allows oxygen to be extracted from the water. This hollow fiber acts as a filter, as it consists of holes even smaller than water molecules. Thanks to a microcompressor charged by a tiny battery, oxygen is compressed and stored, and then it's returned to the person underwater.
So far, it hasn't been possible to go more than 15 feet underwater; There's still work to do so that the respirator can adapt to underwater pressure.
To raise the funds necessary for the project, the design team has launched an appeal on the internet for participatory financing using the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform. The Swedish company responsible for the project has been able to collect 400,000 euros in just 6 days , which is more than 600% of the total needed!
So, soon will we all be able to be fish or little mermaids in the water? In any case, diving enthusiasts will be excited to not have to carry bulky bottles anymore.
It is possible to place preorders starting at $150 (about 130 euros).
