"Undercover Boss": When a CEO finds out one of his employees is homeless...
Angel, a 30-year old American mother of 3 children, has struggled for several years.
She currently lives in a shelter in New York with her 3 children. The oldest is 4, the middle is 3, and the youngest is barely a few months old.
This mother works odd jobs and can't get by on a single wage. But she found steady work selling sporting goods at Modell's Sporting Goods in New York. With this sales job. however, she hasn't been able to afford a home. But luck would eventually be on her side.
In fact, Angel was part of the TV show 'Undercover Boss' in 2012.
The premise of this TV show is that the CEO of a company pretends to be an employee in his own company, to see how things are for employees.
Angel trained her own boss, Mitchell Modell, without knowing it, and he pretended to be 'Joey'.
During the training, Angel was talking to Joey to make him feel better and to help him adjust. As a result, she unknowingly tells her boss about her difficult times. 'It doesn't matter though, I don't want you to feel sad for me. It was worse than that. We slept at bus stops, we've been where we didn't have money to eat. But things get better. As long as you have that drive in you,' she says.
The CEO shed some tears hearing her story: 'I'm the one who decides how much our associates are paid, and to think that one of our associates is homeless makes me sick,' said the upset boss.
At the end of each airing of 'Undercover Boss', the employees who were followed are invited to the boss's office, and it's then that they realize they 'trained' their boss.
After revealing his true identity to Angel, Mitchell Modell offered her a job as Assistant Manager and a $14,000 raise. Then, he gave her a check for $250,000 so that she and her kids could leave the shelter and buy a house. 'I want you to move out of the shelter immediately,' he says.
